May 4th, 2017 – Sarasota Original Arts Performances (SOAP)

Spread the love

This month the SOAP team is using The Force to bring you live Sarasota music with a Star Wars Day music celebration. On May The Fourth …. (be with you).  Get it? Star Wars Day? “May the fourth” sounds like “may the force” with a lisp? … Anyway, this is going to be a Galactically funky and Rebelliously righteous show. This time ’round we bring you the deep-groove-pockets of piano man John Hetherington and the reggae echoes of Instigators’ front-man Marc Mosby.

Plus, FREE pizza slices from New York Slice Company at the show!

Marc Mosby of the Instigators

Live Sarasota Music from Marc MosbyIf you’ve been in the live Sarasota music scene for a while then you’ve certainly heard of Marc Mosby. Marc was a founder and the front man of The Instigators: a Sarasota reggae/rock sensation in the 80’s. Their hit album Between The Worlds helped propel the band to considerable regional success. This resulted in opening for such reggae legends as Jimmy Cliff and Steel Pulse. The band’s success also helped launch the international musical carreer of Instigators’ late violinist Willie Royal.

Fabulously Funky John Hetherington

Sarasota Musician John HetheringtonJohn Hetherington is a sensationally talented and funky pianist. Relatively new to the scene, John has been studying and playing in the area since 2013. In that time he has largely flown under the radar. You would be hard pressed to find much about him on the web. But believe me, this guy is worth hearing. His deep pockets and behind-the-beat playing leaves you almost woozy.

In addition to countless pickup gigs, his talents have been employed by the super-funky local band Wild Root. They will be touring the northeast this summer.

Special Musical Guest Paul Fournier

Our sponsor, New York Slice Company, will provide FREE pizza slices at the show.

Paul Fournier Sarasota MusicianWe had such a great jam on March 30th with the talented Paul Fournier on guitar. Due to his awesome musical skills and hunger to play, we’ve enlisted him again. He will be joining Jonathan Pettus on Bass and Christopher Austin on Drums. Now that the three have played a few gigs together, their Jedi Music Tricks should be well honed.
